Post Linux
That is essentially all I know about this topic, is the name.

Can anyone explain what it is? I understand it is an operating system. But I am setting up a new computer and I was wondering the benefits or downfalls. Any one of you have it? Explain a bit please, because I hate to drop a couple hundred dollars on that damn Windows program, but I will if it is a lot better than Linux.

Thanks in advance.

PS - I just ordered all the gear for my new rig. It should be here is a week or so. I am excited.

first downfall....if you don't know anything about it but the name....you should deffinitly not install it on a new system....I'll be a pain to fix once you've screwed it up....that and the only way to get steam to run on it is to run windows as an indavidual modual(not fun)....why don't you pick something easy like MacOS

just partition your hd

give yourself a little partition to F*CK with linux and the rest to windows

when you want to play cs just load up windows

i find it funny as F*CK when all the linux junkies says windows xp sucks then get a windows emulator or some shit to run games.....

just F*CKING use windows for gaming dumbasses

If you want to play anything you'll still need windows. If you're not a serious nerd, you'll never need to know anything about Linux, regardless of what any open source whore says. You can't play games on it, you can't do any serious graphics or music work on it. Linux is not a windows replacement, it's just another OS.

Avoid it at all costs. It sounds like you're looking at it as a cost saving alternative to Windows, and it's not.

I have it and use it for server/web configuration shit and testing, but it's not for the typical home computer user.

firstly it pwns. its a unix(my fav language) based operating system. very stable, u can have it running for 6 months with out ever crashing, or needing to restart. it is open source, so the means its free and legal to DL. also every program u ever need u can find online, except a good windows emulator. couple good versions are redhat, susie(i think thats how u spell it), BSD... and whole bunch more. its not very practical unless u program in unix, or if u trying to run it for a company(microsoft even uses it now). if u just want to mess around with it, i sugest using red hat fedora core 3(its the easist, and has a good GUI), and duel boot with what ever opperating system ur running now.

Linux is for the advanced PC user, or for server operations. Now if you want to learn Linux then either get a copy of Knoppix LiveCD(runs from the CD), or set aside a partition of 20GB and install either Fedora Core, Ubuntu (I think I spelled it right), or Knoppix. My choice has always been Fedora since I have clients who use Redhat Enterprise Linux (Fedora is the open development version of RHEL). You can run Windows apps under WINE with Linux. But it's not for the faint of heart.
