I've had two ingrown toenails and I got rid of both of them on my own. You get something like a file with a pointy end and a clipper and you slide it under the nail down the side to pry up the ingrown nail. Once you get it up you bend it back and clip it. That simple. The first time it grew to the back so I had to cut my toe a little but the doctor said I did a good job when I went to see him and he couldn't charge me for doing it.
