Post Motherboard help?
Im building a computer for my cousin..
Its going to be an extreme budget build..
I already built the computer..
I planned on using his HDD.. But its an IDE..
The Motherboard im buying only has SATA ports..

QUESTION: Does anyone know anything about IDE-to-SATA Controller Cards OR anything that could help me make the IDE HDD work with the SATA Motherboard

urlhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc ... 6813128519 This motherboard will be used.

Re-using the hard drive would save me from buying him a HDD and windows.. (about $170 -_-)

What kwang shows works but its sketchy and I heard there can be problems but if it works then :D Horray! Worth a try, luckily for me my motherboard had one IDE port still on it.

It's a PCI-E card that has SATA and IDE ports on it. It costs $15.

More of these types of cards:

Another thing you could try is using one of these instead:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... =BESTMATCH

The controllers are generally rated for the same performance.

So from the looks of it, The controllers are the wallet friendly, smart choice?

Either a controller or an external USB enclosure.

You kidding me? Extreme budget and you buying MB for over $100 and trying to save on the IDE by spending another $$$ for the controler?

Here you go with extreme budget solution:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157292
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157309

Not sure what you mean by saving on the windows. I think you want to avoid reinstall and reactivation. I'm afraid you'll need to reinstall, otherwise it'll be that a messy pile of old/new drivers. reactivation of the OEM windows on the different comp is actually not so hard. You just have to call automated system spend 5-10 minutes repeating the numbers and you done.

I seriously see no point in buying MB for $100 if the old HDD's I/Os will be bottleneck of whole system anyway.

But if you are still looking for a serial to parallel converter I did one back in college with Motorola 68k in the middle. Not sure if it still works.

Well, the computer is being built for a 15 y/o without a job. Eventually he will buy a new Hard drive and Windows with it. As i did.
He has $550. Not $700. I built him a computer that when he gets a job and saves up he can built off of. Not much building you can do of a $44 motherboard.
I built my own computer, i understand what you're saying.
But instead of piling on $70 for a HDD and $100 for an OEM Version of Windows 7 now, he could use the computer with the controller? unti he saves another $200 (Which could take an unemployed 15 a while)

$17 now for the controller < $170 now for Windows 7 and a New Hard Drive.
Thats the logic i used. IF i can spend the $17 now to get a computer to work for him while he saves then i thought it would be best.

obviously Without the new HDD and OS the PC wont be at 100%

I mean there are other ways of getting the operating system, just saying. IE look at the windows 7 keys on the computers at public places lol they work though it may not be legal. Regardless try one of the two options kwang gave you. I would say get the enclosure cuz once he gets his new HDD, he could just turn that old IDE into an external drive to tote around.

LOL I know a bunch of places with Win7 keys just sitting on the cases, but they all run XP...
