Desktop issue
So -- let me ask you computer guys a question. My computer just up and froze on me last night...when I hit the power button and turned it back on, nothing came up -- it didn't even get to the bios page or anything. I can hear the fans going, so I know it's getting power. I let it rest over night -- came home from work today and tried it again...same thing. Now, as some of you know, I have been having some problems with it lately. A few times when I would play CS (it only really started when I would play), I'd get a blue screen saying something about a memory dump, then it would restart and, a few times, it would take multiple times of restarting before it would finally boot up again. A few times beyond that, it said something about it couldn't find my operating system -- the same error that someone else was talking about...some PX-something error? I don't remember exactly anymore. Now...every other time, giving the computer a few hours off would remedy the situation and I could boot it up again...not this time, though. What could cause this??

Re: Desktop issue
Try re-seeding all your hardware. might just be a bad connection somewhere. And if you think its your hard drive you can try freezing it. Ive heard that gets them to work for awhile.

Re: Desktop issue
Yeah, almost definitely a bad hard drive or filesystem corruption.

Re: Desktop issue
A hard drive would be easier to try than just buying a new computer, I guess. Thanks guys...it's a place to start, at least.

Re: Desktop issue
Try to reinstall Windows first. Something could have just fucked up in your filesystem and a replacement drive might not be necessary. Find out what kind of drive it is, go to the manufacturer's website, and download/run their bootable hard drive diagnostic test if they have one and run that shit. It'll tell you if it's bad. A lot of these drives have 1-3 year warranties on them from the manufacturer, so you MAY be able to get one for free if you're willing to wait a few weeks on an RMA.
