Get a small portable one and then get a desktop for later. Powerful laptops that have big screens are mobile heating units, and they are unreliable and will be out of date in a year or two.

True, it is not nice to move my laptop around as it's heavy as F*CK. It also does heat up quick but luckily the vent and fan systems cool it off quick after I'm done gaming but the noise is not so friendly to anyone around you. The portable heating aspect is nice though, since I am in a cold state and in a cold unfinished basement it comes in handy loloolol.
As for out of date this one is still keeping up fairly nice but indeed it will be obsolete and unable to run much soon, I give it to the end of 2012.
To really round it off, a gaming laptop isn't the greatest idea if you're going to be in college and moving around with your laptop. It's nice because is effectively consolidates all your computing but realistically outside of the college realm a gaming laptop is for the most part redundant as a desktop is more suited (unless you're someone who I don't know, is dirtbag and goes on business trips every F*CKING week).
