Post Anybody here good with Access and macros and shit?
Ok, here's what I'm trying to do. We have an Access program for filling out a form we have. It works great, but before this, we had a Excel spreadsheet to log the information contained on this form. There's a handful of fields, like report #, requester, project engineer, part # and so on. SO, to get our nifty Access program up to date, I've been stuck with the task of hand-importing all the data from the cells in Excel to the table in Access. And there's THOUSANDS of rows worth of report data.

so

Is there a cool, techy, macro, VB way (I know nothing of macros, coding, VB, w/e) to auto-import the Excel data into the Access table?

Thanks.

Fomenta can probably whip something up.

Word.. but don't feel obligated.

I feel kinda stupid. Like as if this is bottom-rung shit for a programmer like 'menta, but it's just shit I've never done before nor was I ever taught, lol.

Full credit will be given where it is due, also. I aint no stooge.

This can definitely be done. I just taught a course on Excel and Access actually.

If you wanna send me like trimmed down versions (like, 4-5 example entries) of the before excel, before access and after access files, I can whip something up np.

If not, screenshots and some description might work.

Try the import via the External Data option

Go through to import wizard, and then (if necessary) use some queries to manipulate the data to get what you need.

big lulz, 'cause my wife told about the "External Data" thing

lol, im with carrot. back in school we had to write a Vb script to to this exact thing, worked on it for 3 days cause I had no idea what I was doing. then I realized you can just import the excel documents using the wizard carrot posted. it worked like a charm

I was told by my boss, the creator of this Access program, that this wouldn't work as there are multiple tables linked to a SQL database and subsequently linked to each other in various ways. I don't know how the F*CK it works...

what about importing data from excel to the temp tables using the method I showed and then running import / append queries to get the data populated in the production table?
