Post PSU capable of causing black screen? BIOS & chipset pro
OK. Today I noticed the AGP port was off on my mobo. Video card worked, but I knew it was way too slow. PC wouldn't let me change to 4X or 8X so I knew I was in for some BS. I changed the bios and chipset, and was able to get 4X. Source ran insanely fast, but sound was all screwed up. Then the screen just went black and had a glowing edge on the left edge. The monitor is fine, it gives a power save screen and everything. (and I'm looking at it now)

It took a few versions of bios and chipset, but I got the PC to run for 4 hours. I went and got grocieries, came back, played 3-4 maps of CZ. After CZ, I went to read a webpage. When I clicked on the link, the monitor lost signal.

So basically for two hours, I kept booting the PC only to make it to the welcome screen, or sometimes 3 minutes into an AIM convo. For all I know, the screen could go black any second right now.

I think I have it fixed to where I can play CZ for now at least. I used the BIOS before everything went to the crapper and the latest chipset from ABIT.

The reason I think it might be the PSU is that this only started happening after the AGP port was turned on to 4X, I didn't even try 8X. Anyway, right now all I can think of is that the x800 Pro is pulling a ton more power now. Or just enough to work...

The sound pops and stuff too. Source is unplayable.

Idunno.

ABIT AV8
AMD 64 3200+
ATi x800 Pro
2 X 512 Mushkin Dual Channel DDR 400
Audigy Sound Card
WD 160 gig
WD 80 gig
Antec SmartBlue 350w PSU

If anyone has ideas, thanks.

Definately time to replace the power supply. 4x AGP draws way too much power for a 350w power supply running all that shit.

What kind of case do you have, and how many fans are in it? Do you have any lights?

It's a big antec case. There were 10 80mm fans, but down to 4 now. Not including CPU, VPU, PSU, etc.

LOL windows is gonna restart in 47 seconds for an update. out of time! hahahaa

Well you need something with lots of fans and something that can house the bigger power supply you need.

Got an antec 480w PSU. Nothing changed.

If a PC keeps rebooting at the same place during detecting devices on windows install, do you think it is the mobo or hard drive? its the only two things left that can be wrong

I have an 80 gig I can try but don't want to b/c it's in original package. The other two mobos might be shorted out.

gonna go on a killing spree brb

I accidentally turned off VGA mode and trying to boot in safe mode or vga mode doesn't help

Someone on here has to know how to help me. It's been a month of me buying and staring at parts, nothing works.
