Post I need a bit of help
well, i have this problem where if I'm trying to connect to a server...say n00bfest...and prometheus or Miss Murk or both are on, it freezes whoever is in game with "Warning: Connection problem" in the top right corner and my connect screen will stay at "connecting..." with only two bars.

anyone know how I could fix this? I'm sure it's a matter of configuring some ports but idk.

EDIT: It doesn't do this all of the time. Just most of it, sometimes we can all three get in without problems. also, this isn't just n00bfest server, it's any server. However, we can play on three different servers and be fine 24/7.

i was reading up on the link kitten posted and steam says that the issue is caused because the default clientport only supports enough bandwidth for one machine at a time. you have to have a different clientport setting for each machine on the router/network. only problem is they only give you the default port setting, no help for how to set up different ports for each machine :(

The default clientport is 27005 and you can only have one game with that port active on the same lan. Specifying a Clientport as a Launch Option

To specify a client port, please perform the following steps for each computer on the LAN

1. Go to Steam's My games menu
2. Right-click on the game you wish to play and select Properties
3. From the General tab, click the Set launch options button
4. Add a different client port number on each machine between 27005 and 27032 in the following format: +clientport 270XX (Do not use 27020)
5. Click OK

That's a really interesting bug.

Does it apply only to CS or does it apply to ALL source engine games?

I've played CS while by brother plays TF2 with no problems, and I didn't need to change the clientport settings.

hmm good question, i guess it doesn't matter because every game has a specific clientport setting in the launch options. so probably no.

Strange, I never changed my clientport and me and my gf have never had a problem playing on the same server together.

it all depends on your bandwidth though so that's probably why. we have all four router ports used, one is wireless, not much bandwidth to spare :(
