My program of choice is the temperature in my room.
But seriously. Processors are designed to handle temperatures that even overclockers haven't been able to reach yet.
If it approaches a BIOS defined threshold, it'll start yelling at you from the PC speaker. If it reaches another threshold (usually quite a few degrees before the maximum temperature, as in 15 or more), it just flat out shuts itself off.
Your rebooting problem may be more along the lines of an OS or software problem. It happened to me a while back when using a pirated copy of Windows XP. I had to reformat the hard drive with an authentic copy and that solved it, but then a few weeks later I had to replace the HDD due to a physical error on the disk.

I had that problem happen to me when I first started playing BF2 with my X1600 pro and my problem was my power source didnt have enough watts. how many watts is your power source ? that could be a factor of it not being able to power everything while you are using certain programs.

Oh. Also what IonFlux said.
I had that problem as well. I bought a 650W power supply and I was sent a 200W power supply with a 650W sticker slapped on it. I only found out after I had to take it a to shop to have them look at it because I thought I had borked up the construction of the computer.

If you think your cpu is overheating then you should get prime95 to heat that sucker up then use everest to monitor the temps.Heres a link to prime http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
If you have a nvidia card just get 3dmark 2001 se and run it about 4-5 times.I still use this old bench becuase its gives the best balance of gpu,cpu and ram.Link http://www.futuremark.com/download/3dmark2001/
But when its all said and done your probably gonna need a new psu. From what you told me it looks like that sucker is dying on you.

I ended up getting pc wizard and it seems to work pretty good. I think it is prolly my ps I tried swapping vid card last night cuz my roomate had an extra and it wasnt any better so then when I put my old one back in the comp starts up and then it shuts right back down. I also do have a pirated version of xp professional so that could also be the problem, I was just at office max and windows xp costs 200 bucks, but if I can find some one who has xp I could use theres b/c I do have the upgrade for that with service pack2. THere is no where in my town that I can buy a ps so ill have to order it from newegg. I have a 450w now with a 2.13 dual core proc a nvidia geforce 5200 fx 2 g igs of ocz dual channel mem, an asus p5nsli mb. the case has 3 fans in it 2 of which also have neon light on them, logitech g-15 key board and a razor copperhead mouse, so I am thinking that is is prolly bot enough power to keep it running.
