We're going to start testing Ad services
In order to grow and expand further, we're going to start experimenting with different advertisement services to generate revenue. The hope is that we're so large that we'll eventually get rid of the need for donations. We've tried this before and it didn't work so well, but that was 4 years ago. We'll see what kind of luck we have with it now. There's a bit of lag-time on payout for ads, so until we can gauge whether or not we'll be seeing any sort of real income from this, the donation goal will remain at $300 to cover operational expenses.
You may notice a small ad at the bottom of the forum in the next little while. Please do not click the ads excessively in hopes of getting us more money. It will only get our account closed, which means we'll forfeit any unpaid earnings in it.

Re: We're going to start testing Ad services
As long as they're not pop-outs, pop-overs, or popups, I don't care! I hope this works out.
Possibly the BF3 server will bring in a good crowd.

Re: We're going to start testing Ad services
Is it one of those that we click once a day or as long as we're on a page it counts?

as long as you're on the page it counts; if you see something interested, don't NOT click it because of what i've said, but just treat them like ads that you see on any other site

Re: We're going to start testing Ad services
Is there any way to make it invisible for n00b members? I've seen it in a couple of forums where when you're registered, the ads are gone. Since this forum isn't too populated by unregistered users, maybe just make it visible to non-n00bs?

It sounds like this would defeat the purpose of having ads in the first place (to obtain some revenue based on pageviews). Client-side tools like Hooker mentioned should work though.

OR disable your ad-block plugins for n00bfest.com and consider it a donation.

UNBLock ads on these pages, that's the point. Since we get the money and not some random scam company out there.

A lot of ads on other websites are on the sides of the pages, where we can see them while browsing through the content. Ours is at the bottom of the website while a lot of our browser base probably sticks towards the top (general discussion/members area).

Re: We're going to start testing Ad services
You just have to be on the page with the ad loaded.

I like it. Now I don't feel so bad for never having money to donate.

Re: We're going to start testing Ad services
If the frame is small enough, it covers up the "Post Reply" button: No matter to most folks, but I figured I would point it out! Also on a 17" monitor, (1024 wide) it covers up part of the "Page 1 of X" test to the right of that button. Perhaps align it to the right instead of in the center? I don't think there's anything to the right of it that it could cover up.
