Basically, this happens ALMOST every single time there's an update. Valve pushes out a CS:S update, and says "YO, ALL CS:S SERVERS NEED TO RESTART IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE UPDATE."

Then all of the CS:S servers in the F*CKING world restart at about the same time (within 30-45 minutes or so) and completely flood the valve update servers.

Then the servers don't update, 'cause every server ever is F*CKING updating.

Now the main and secondary CS:S servers are sitting at the update screen going "HURR DEE DURRRRR"

That's why CS:S is down right now. When Valve's servers get un-dickbutted, then they'll be back up.

In all seriousness though, whatever the issue is they will have it resolved as they always do. I've never not seen Valve have an issue that many people are experiencing and then not fix it right away.

So.... you've obviously never had to deal with srcds in any sort of regular capacity. I'll let this stupid ass comment slide.

Is it really that bad? I've never used it but really haven't heard many complaints from it until now.

srcds is one of the worst dedicated server applications I've ever dealt with.

Does the update come through Steam or is at separate download? If it does come through Stream and I know i'm stating something obvious but I was wondering if you tried changing the location of where it downloads from, whenever a huge update comes out I usually switch it out of the US to somewhere in Malaysia where it's less clogged.

srcds is independent from steam. You use the steam binary to download srcds, and you can use the steam binary to update srcds, but the way it's designed is such that srcds is capable of updating hlds and itself.

To install srcds, you'd run steam with like "./steam -command update -game "counter-strike source" -dir /path/to/wherever" and then to run srcds or even update srcds, you cd to /path/to/wherever and run "./srcds_run +args -autoupdate"

csgo, however, requires steamcmd, which is a completely different (and even more shitty) tool to install and update dedicated gameservers. That process is even shittier because you have to have a valid steam account to log in to while you're on the server.

If you're interested in learning more and have any linux sysadmin skills, apply to n00b and I might show you a thing or two.

My Steam just updated, and now CS GO wont let me join the server. How can I fix this? Is this on of those crap situations where the server has to update too?
