Post The key to the game, is headshots. (Scout advice?)
This is a new topic for everyone to pool their knowledge, strategy, tactic, technique and experience with the scout. I have been practicing my scout almost exclusively now, and in my experience I have spectated a lot of our n00bs and rcts here not using the scout to its full potential. Does anybody care to share? I'll post what I know when I have more time.
I'd like to see Unholy's contribution to this discussion.

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all scouters

Ok here we go..what i know.

The scout is a cheap, affordable, weapon. You move fast with it, some say faster than with the knife or pistol. You can scope, or non scope with it with pratical ease. Strafing *spellcheck* is a good tactic/method to use while shooting. Strafing left and right to evade their fire, then stoping quickly, and i mean quickly to fire, then keep moving. Usually i aim at the neck, and when i fire i drag my crosshair up so that the bullet hits their head. Another good way is to crouch, and fire as you come up from the crouch, that also lands headshots. Scope long range, no scope close.

I've never done the crouch thing because it slows me down. I think I know what ocelot's talking about with the dragging of the crosshairs, but I'm standing when I do it. I barely ever use the second zoom, and when I'm aiming I point the crosshair down and to the right, then before I fire I bring it in an arc and pull the trigger right as it passes over their faces.

Well, I've been practicing with the scout also. First, I would like to say I beat @cid. He failed.

Okay, a good tactic is to line it up with a teammates head (this is for no scoping) and then go and pop out of a corner and if you see an enemy shoot. You have to be able to aim it a little but if you do it right you'll get a quick headshot.

Also, when fighting more than one target, I've learned that jumping while you are going to reload inbetween shots is good. Your accuracy goes back to normal almost instantly as you hit the ground. This throws the enemy off.

Another tip I could give is practice, practice, practice. Use the scout on a map you would never think to use it on. Use it on Office. That is good no-scope practice in my opinion. Make your own server and put 5 bots on the other team, set them to normal or hard difficulty, give them only pistols, get a scout and pwn em up. This is good aim practice also.

If I think of anything else I'll edit this post.

My Best tips
1) aim at the chest.

2) while firing drag down the mouse (for inverted) or up (For non inverted) depending on your inversion settings.

Inverted: down = up, up = down
Non- Inverted: down = down, up = up

3) In a scout battle, don't stop and be sure to use a combo of strafs, just dont go left and right and left and right, trying doing, left more left, back right a bit more right with a crouch and three lefts and so on.

4) If you can assure a knife kill on someone but they're at full health. Shoot him/her in the leg and pull out your knife, not only will it slow him/her down, but it could catch him by surprise and freak him out by a sudden stop, almost guaranteing you a knife kill and a bigger E-Penis.

5) Bind an easily accessible button to "Last Weapon Used" so you can switch knife/scout fast on scout maps, so you can up your knife counts. Reason being, it'll take out your weapon of choice faster than if you had to scroll and click. Goes for any set of weapons. Ex: Deagle to awp, Scout to knife Etc. (Good for n00b style knifing) :)

6) Learn to airstrafe for low grav. scout maps or any map. It WILL save your ass if you accidently jump or need to get somewhere. Not only will it save your ass, but it gets you where you're going faster if you master it.

That concludes this Episode of my Tips, I'll post more if I think of them.

1. Just shoot them!
I have seen lots of nubs doublescoping in and following someone's head for maybe fifteen seconds, trying to get a steady headshot on them. Chances are, if you just scoped in once and hit their body, it would kill them, since a scout does an average of 65 damage. If you do manage to succeed in hitting them and they do not die and do not know from where the fire is coming from, they'll be scared senseless and just turn around violently and spray (or so I've seen). Take this reaction as an opportunity to capitalize and finish your opponent with another body shot. Headshots are nice, but are hard to pull off in most instances.

2. Aim before peeking.
Pretty self explanatory. If any of you have seen me play Aztec with a scout, you'll see that I can get a decent amount of kills at bridge. If you peek your head out at bridge, there will be many guns aimed for head, and waiting long enough to peek out, then scope, then aim is certain death. Instead, scope in where you would imagine an enemy to be as if you were standing out of cover and aiming at them. Do this before you peek. Then, with that aim set, quickly peek, take a shot, and retreat. This leads me to another tip.

3. Your gun does not have to be steady, but your body does.
This applies to any scenario where your opponent is actually not where you imagined them to be when you pre-aimed. For example, I pre-aimed to shoot to to the right of the bridge to hit an enemy, but when I peek out, I see that there is someone on the left side, out of cover. I can quickly swing my cursor to the left and when my cursor and their head meet, I can click and retreat. What I mean is, instead of seeing him and trying to lock your aim on his head and keep your cursor stationary before shooting, is to try a sweeping motion and only click when your cursor hits his head. I guess you could say, is to shoot right when you think you have a shot, instead of waiting to lock on target. You don't have that much time.

4. Don't double scope if you don't have to.
Although you are zoomed-in closer, and have a better view, this may not necessarily mean improved accuracy. In my experience, double-zooming leaves more room for error than with regular scoping.

4. Do not be predictable with your strafing and peek-timing.
When strafing against somebody in that dire situation in which you lack cover or teammates, to put it simply, dance like a white person. Lose all sense of timing and rhythm. Look as stupid as possible. Jump, go left, go back right, crouch, shoot, switch to pistol then back to scout, zoom in, move very far left, etc. Do not let them follow a pattern. This is one of the worst problems I see when strafing scout v. scout at scoutzknivez. They're predictable, and I can lead my shot.
When peeking, do not keep a rhythm. Pros like Vision have discussed this before. If they can analyze your rhythm, they know when to expect your head to pop out. GG.

5. If caught in close quarters, take a noscope shot and then switch to your pistol.
Some may disagree with me on this, but if you can manage to pull off a noscope on a crouching m4 sprayer, you might be able to get them. If you miss, no worries, finish them with some good strafing and a pistol.

If you can combine all of these tips together, you'll be able to do things with the scout you once thought impossible.

For example, I've been able on one occasion to solo-scout rush short A on dust 2 as a terrorist. By preaiming obvious spots and changing up my rhythm when peeking out from behind the green boxes, you can easily take out campers. If you wait to change up your rhythm and they seek to capitalize by rushing you, you can use that sweep-shot to take them out if they're unexpectedly closer than and further to the left than you pre-aimed for.

Good luck, have fun, and keep this thread alive![/b]

Scoutzknivez is easy if you get up top quicker then the other team. But with a scout, usually people are dumb and just run back and forth and shoot at random, and pray they hit you. I sit back in funmaps and let them run into my crosshair..whee.

1. Scout shots are completely accurate while running, dont stop to shoot.
2. While running zoomed in (or still, doesnt matter), drag your crosshair across someone and fire just as it passes over them, this is also completely accurate. Unlike rifles and crap, scouts shoot the single bullet, and no matter how your crosshair is moving, itll go to the spot it was pointing at the instant you shot.
3. For no-scopes, treat it as though it were a pistol. Just aim at em and shoot. If you are still relying on your crosshair for normal weapons then this wont work for you and you should probably use the tape-with-a-dot method.

I beat him!! 14 - 11 It was a good game though. While I was on CT the score went 5 - 5. Then when I went to T Unholy had me 5 - 2, and I came back with 3 headshots to go into overtime. He won the first round, while I took the last 4.

Walling is fun. Sometimes you can just take a blind shot at your spawn and you'll hit someone in their spawn before the round even starts on scoutzknviez. You can also shoot through walls if you just strafe behind one for cover.

Take a shot while aiming at your opponent in the open, take cover while aiming in the same area and fire again. I get blamed for hacking a lot for that.

As far as aiming on the map goes, I play a bit differently than I normally do. If the target is far off from my xhair, I'll use the mouse to aim relatively close and strafe onto his head. Somtimes using both mouse and keyboard throw off my aim by half a centimeter and I miss that crucial headshot. Or at least I think I play like that, difficult to tell without actually playing. Haven't played the map in awhile but I'm up for any challenge.
