SMG Vs. Ast Rifle
Trying ti figure out which is better for certain situations. Rifle is guarantee for longer distance but I'm trying to figure out the advantages of SMG. They seem under played compared to the AK and M4. I Personally like the MP5 but is there a better SMG?

M4/AK/Deagle/Awp will always be the most used guns in counter-strike.
In source however, use a p90.

If you aim well, move well, and fire in bursts, P90 is just as good at long range as an M4. Nothing beats a one-shot from an AK. Deagle is the motherfucking cannon and if you fire slowly it's indespensible. M4 is always a sure bet for long distances if you aim carefully and useful for medium range shots if you fire in small bursts or single-shot fire. Also useful for spraying down crowds at close range.
SMG? Go with the P90.
Rifle? AK and M4 have the same benefits.
SMG or Rifle?
Rifle.
Body shots from a rifle do more damage, long range shots are more accurate and do more damage. SMGs are cheaper and are perfectly fine in close quarters, as long as you either fire in bursts or make damn well sure the first few shots hit their head. But go with the rifle: works better on armor, headshots do 81-100+ damage, more accurate overall, more range, silencer on the M4, stopping power on the AK, etc.

Cool thanks for the info guys. Its hard to tell whats good or not even while trying them. Also I assume the silencer doesn't affect the M4 like it would in the real world correct?

When I played source, I usually raged with the P90, I'm sure many can attest to that.
Its good in close quarters, aim low recoil sprays up, and fire in short bursts for long distance like qwned said.

I used to be really good with the m4 but I seem to suck with it. Now the AK, previously my worst gun, is probably the second best under the awp.

i usually stick to rifles for the reasons Q listed, but my gun selection depends on the map too. like in office, 80% of the time or more you will be in a close-quarters situation, so shotguns and SMGs work better than if you were playing cbble, d2, italy, piranesi...

The silencer on the M4 helps with recoil. At least it seems that way to me. However, I'd have to look it up but I think the M4 w/out the silencer does a little bit more damage than with the silencer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is correct.

lmao, seriously, there is really no point in figuring out which weapons are good for certain situations in source, and I'm not saying that just because my opinion towards source is biased.
It goes like this: If you've played 1.6 or cz, use whatever weapons you didn't use in those games in source and you win. p90, pump shottie, scout, tmp, running with deagle and shooting at insane distances.
Just snipe in d2 with a p90.
