FPS is Frames Per Second. This makes the game read milliseconds that feed to your computer versus your latency. The sooner you see it, the sooner you shoot it, so, the higher the FPS, the higher your chance of killing your enemy before they kill you. When you get old like me though, milliseconds don't count, heh. |

Plus you really want to play on the highest res that your monitor can handle. But you want to cap your fps at a level that it will not move from so that you don't have any fps lag. Also i don't know if its the same for CS:S but in CoD4 if your fps exceeds 350 fps your foot steps become silent to the other plays. Don'T know why but that's why most leagues make you cap fps at 250 or lower. |

I think CSS caps it at 300 now. |

CSS caps at your monitor's refresh rate. In fact, all games do. |

According to http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_7.html Refresh Rate is not to be confused with Frames Per Second. FPS is how fast your graphics card can output individual frames each second; Refresh rate is a separate property of a computer monitor: how many times per second it can 'refresh' the screen, regardless of how many frames are being fed to it by the graphics card, or what type of image is on the screen. The only problem with a monitor that has a slow refresh rate is the ghosting, FPS is still important. |

According to Angry Kitten (aka Lazer Jesus): Your monitor cannot display more frames per second than your refresh rate. If you hold a constant 300 FPS and your monitor's refresh rate is 75 MHz, you will only see 75 of the 300 frames. |

Remember though, we're talking about a difference of milliseconds here, so it's kind of silly to even worry about. |

Unless you're ancient (read: Coach) those milliseconds can make all the difference. |

CRT monitor's are superior. When my $350 LCD took a shit on me after only 2 years, I bought a $35 used CRT and I've been blasting more face than a bukkake. 100 fps with 100-120 hz makes CS way less random. Even with 2ms LCD's, the 60-75 hz (and it's not true hz, to be honest) is garbage. They make 120 hz LCD's now but again, not true hz and still a waste of money for gaming. I still use an LCD for web browsing and movies, but nothing beats the feel of CRT gaming. Old school, bitches. Hop on Craigslist sometime and do a search on "CRT" in your city/area. You'll find a bunch of people damn near giving the things away. The guy I got mine from even delivered it to me. Just make sure you don't get raped. |
