Alright LV. I thought I had my rate shit all figured out, but I'm not getting as much registration as I used to, I don't really know what to fix. Maybe you/someone else who KNOWS what they're talking about can help.
Download Speed: 1264 kbps (158 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 207 kbps (25.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
(supposedly I'm low-end DSL)
current rates are:
cl_updaterate 35
cl_cmdrate 35
rate 18000
cl_rate 9999
ex_interp .05 (because any lower and I get the skipping)
- Today someone (respectable) was telling people that cl_rate should be 12000 and rate should be 9999. So I have a few questions. Are these "CAL pre-ferred" like the guy said? Or should we use what you have?
- Also, how important is 0 choke? I know that Seiji gets up to 90 choke while playing (because he told me)
- And also, should the cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate be equal? does it really matter? zOMG hlep!1

Ehh I get choke almost all the time in the servers. My rate is 25000, cl_rate 9999, cl_updaterate 101, cl_cmdrate101, cl_cmdbackup2. It may cause you to get choke, but registry is better. I started using ex_interp .01 instead of .05 even though I get more skipping, I seem to register better despite the skipping. There is no "Cal-Preferred" rates or anything, it is all personal preference. If you don't like recieving choke then lower your rates. If you feel you hit better with lower rates then keep them low, if you feel you hit better with your rates higher keep them high. It is all really up to you. Even though I know people recieve the skipping effect of models when ex_interp .01 is on, I do think that overtime it helps you 10x more than anything else.

uhm, respectable? i'm pretty sure cl_rate does not go above 9999, whoever told you that is a little confused. and your rate SHOULD NOT BE 9999, that is also the next stupidest thing i've heard so far. 0 choke is very important, choke/loss is very annoying especially when you're playing and nothing is hitting. having 90 choke is not good, but choke/loss can also be heavioly dependant on the server. a good server with the rates i suggested will have 0/0 (i never have above that on our server). not necessarily equal but in the ballpark of each other, i wouldn't suggest having 101/40 or 90/35 but just toy around with them.

I've got a problem. I have a wireless connection to an access point next door that runs DSL. I was experiencing some lag, and I was told to come here for more. I changed everything like I was supposed to, but for some reason, it just made things somewhat worse.
I mean, I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Compaq Presario, with 1GB RAM, and 1.70 GHz on an AMD Athlon 64 X2. With a DSL connection...
So, what's the problem?

Well, DSL is fairly slow, and wireless is even slower.
I'd say your internet speed is your only choke right now.
Also, vista will probably lag you a bit with only 1GB ram and a 1.7GHz processor.

Re: rates and your ping
Unless your internet is awful, then rate 30000/35000, cl_cmdrate 66/101, cl_updaterate 66/101. Depending on the server locking rates, or it being a bad server, you should use the right number on all 3, you really can't go wrong with them.
