Post Re: Overclocking
I am using stock cooling fan on the CPU and stock speed on the GPU. My shit doesn't overheat because of the case I have. i7's do not run very hot, and they don't require half as much to run. Lian Li cases are the shit, but they are way out of my price range, though they'd probably do my system justice. I don't mind taking screenies to prove it running. Hell I'd do it for bragging rights.

Water cooling a good set up will cost you about 300 bucks and up. just remember to test it for 24 hours before you turn on you computer or it might go boom.

It was probably one of the worst $209 investments I've ever made. I find it is extremely hard to play video games with a giant dick in your ass.

My CPU refuses to go past 3.9 GHz but even at that OC it doesnt go past 35C with my Scythe Mugen 2 and HAF 932 :D

Post Re: Overclocking
For anything less than going for maxing out your cpu to a point where you wouldnt want to run it 24/7 (well even then there are much better options IE:vapor or LN2), water is not really a viable option for overclocking. Air coolers have really come a long way from the athlon xp days when i built my first full pc, a good hsf combo will only be a little worse than a good water cooling setup and you dont run the risks of a dead pump or a leak. I my self would never run a liquid cooling setup unless i was going for a very quiet computer with only 2 120mm fans.

At the moment im running a 720be @ 3.8ghz 1.45vcore with a sythe kama angle. my temps max out at about 40C under full load. my ram is running at 800mhz 4-4-4-12 (lower latency = better than more speed to a point), example ddr1 at 400mhz cas 2 is faster than ddr2 533mhz cas4.

So say if you want to overclock your ram and loosen your timing to get a few extra mhz, it can actually make your setup a lot slower.

on am2/3 boards, overclocking your North bridge will give you more of a gain to your memory bandwidth than overclocking your ram.

while not related to overclocking, the best improvement to my computer i have ever made, more so than a athlon xp to a opteron 165, or a 165 to a p2 x3, more noticeable to me than anything, was going from a single drive to a raid set up. while it dosnt help with games or anything it makes your computer really snappy. I currently have 2 500gb segate 7200.12 in raid 0. they bench at about 220MB/s sustained. While a nice SSD might be a little faster you have to remember my set up is almost as fast, was only about $90 for both drives, and i have 1tb of storage.
