yesterday night when i got home from work i was toying around on a couple sites i visit frequenty. i was reading some comics and checking facebook, blah blah blah... but all of the sudden my computer froze up. My mouse wouldn't respond, my keyboard wouldn't respond, nothing would work. so i restarted my computer, but it wouldn't fully turn back on. it would act like it was starting up, but it sounded like the hard drive wouldn't read. it would whir like the arm was trying to work. but it wouldn't read. all the things i noticed when i tried to restart my comp: 1. no video output 2. backlighting on mouse and keyboard wouldn't work 3. when normally starting up, HDD would whir then beep, and turn on. now it just repeatedly whirs 4. when i popped my disc drive out the backlight on my keyboard would blink 4 times, pause, then repeat WTF!? |

I'm not sure, but sounds like a power supply problem.. I suppose ti could be other things, but if you have a extra one handy that's what I would try. |

Try this: Remove all components not required to post, this includes: PCI cards (unless you need a video card.) Hard drives Optical drives USB devices Try it without any of that garbage, see if you can at least POST. |

well, my USB devices are simply my mouse and my keyboard. if it does post and i have the option for bios should i plug my keyboard back in and check it out? and i would have to check if i have onboard graphics. i use a video card obviously so i'm not actually sure if my mobo has onboard. also should i remove everything strange, everything except my processor from my mobo? i DO have a spare power supply, it's a 400 watt i think and the one i am using now is a 630. RE: joe: the only thing i have added recently is 8gb of ram and that was around christmas. |

update.so i went ahead with strange's advice and took everything out of the mobo/pc (except video card b/c i had no other way to get video). no USB, no HD, no optic, no ram, no anything. so when i powered on the comp, all the lights turned on and fans started working. shortly after that there was a distinctly repeating long beep then 2 short beeps (beeeeeeeep beep beep). TLDR so, no video still, everything receiving power, then long beep and 2 short beeps which continued to repeat until i shut the PC off. FML |

sounds like your mobo is taking a shit. Try resetting the cmos battery by locating the necessary jumpers or removing and replacing it after about 10 minutes. If your still having issues i would go ahead and prepare to get a new motherboard One last final thing would be to test the ram and cpu in another system if possible? also try to jump the power pins and boot outside the case to see if you get any luck posting. If it fails a new mobo is needed |

Try it with only 1 stick of memory in it as it's required to post, see what happens. And yes, you can plug your keyboard in. |
