And just "GEFORCE GTX" doesn't count. It needs numbers ;)

Oh and hi everyone by the way. I know it's been a while. School has been keeping my schedule bloated :/ For the last 4 months the only reason I've started BF3 is to do benchmarks...

Keep guessing, think more recent. Or perhaps from the future. What would Doc Brown say?

The only real gain from this card is in the increase from 2-3 monitor architecture, imo. The 570 and 580 have more than enough power for every game on the market, so why pay for something you'll never use?

Hooker, people have machines with two or even three HD 7970s. That's like $2k worth of graphics alone. Some people spend lots of money on their computers. If someone was looking to buy an HD 7970 before now, they'll probably go with a GTX 680. People pay for it because they WILL "use" it.

Yes, a GTX 570 may be more than enough for some people. However, for someone wanting to run 3 monitors and maybe even add 3d on top of that, the performance of a GTX 570 isn't going to do well.

To each his own. I didn't pay a dime for the card, but if I had the money and I was wanting to build a kick-ass system, I'd buy one. It's cheaper than an HD 7970, is more powerful, and draws less power. If someone says, "I want a sports car and I want to spend around $50,000". Are you going to tell them that it's a waste of money because the speed limit is 65mph everywhere? It may be a waste of money to you because your 2002 Hyundai gets you from point A to point B. To them, it's what they want and they're willing to spend the money...

The real question is, how did you get it?

An Nvidia rep handed to me personally in San Francisco a few weeks ago (cue gay gangbang jokes). They flew reviewers in from all over the world for the press briefing on Kepler. If you Google "GTX 680 Review", someone has to write those articles. I'm one of those writers - the way any reviews work really is that the company gives you the part to review. It's form of advertising more or less.

Can we have a link to your review?

Damn do you get to keep it? Also I just saw the reviews. :O It toys around with the 6990 and GTX590. Thats nuts from a single card! Poor 7970 :(

Your analogy mostly supports my opinion. It's for E-Penis only. You will never need any of that power and having it will make no visible improvement to the human perceiving it. I think this is a flawed analogy as well, because you're comparing two completely separate objects, and speed is only one of the variables gained from spending more on a car.

So, show me any situation where a gtx 680 is required for anything on the market. If you say 'rendering' I'll punch you in the dick, because you're an engineer and should know that you don't use regular cards for rendering. That's what workstation cards are for.And as I said, the only notable gain from using this card is that you can run 3 monitors off of one card. At this point in time, more power is useless.

But as you said, there will be retards* that waste their money on this. Maybe something will come out that requires this much power, but I doubt it.

I just like the fact that the older cards will drop in price when this bad boy comes out.

Hooker, no I won't tell you rendering lol. I'll give you that. But I will say that a card of this stature IS required for triple monitor setups; I run 5760x1080 myself. Battlefield 3 across 3 monitors on High (not even ultra or whatever) with 4X AA and 16X AF, the GTX 680 barely makes it into the 40 fps range. 30fps on Ultra. If I wanted to run 3d? Even less. Flagship / state of the art cards are required by people who want the best image quality possible on high resolutions. People with money who can afford it - why wouldn't they go for it?

If someone wants to spend $2k on a computer for gaming, he's not going to say "Oh, this AMD HD 6770 is plenty to run BF3 on Medium settings at 19x10 at 30fps. Who could ever want more, the human eye cannot see that high of a refresh rate anyways!" lol. Higher frame rates are most CERTAINLY perceived. Sure, 250fps is unnecessary. But I can absolutely tell you that 45fps versus 100fps in a game is huge. If you're one of those people who say 30fps is no worse than 100fps, try fps_max 30 in CSS and give it a go. Tell me there's no difference!

My penis is small for a horse. Leave neckbeards out of this conversation.
