I have a raided ssd boot drive, and frankly I am pretty meh about the whole ssd thing.

my computer doesn't reall boot any faster, and those buggers were expensive.

WTF kind of SSD you buy? Mine boots cold in like 12 seconds and that's counting me putting in my password and it loading my startup programs.

Secondly, why the hell would you RAID SSD unless you had the $$ to splurge? Best combo atm is SSD for boot and programs (mine is only 90GB) and a decent HDD for storage. Make sure it's SATA III on both counts to get the most out of it.

Crucial M4's are bottom of the barrel as far as performance but top of the list when it comes to reliability, next to Intel.

prices aren't horrible, and some of the better older drives are cheaper than the gig per dollar norm that folks crave with ssds.

If you are broke, i wouldn't do it, it just doesn't make that much of a difference, relative to a high end mechanical drive. Though with the Thailand floods, mechanical hard drives are crazy expensive.

Debating on whether or not i should get one as my boot drive.

I actually have a first gen SSD rated for enterprise use, it's still going strong.

of course it's a 32 gig drive that cost like 1500 bucks when it came out.

That's a very respectable computer man, I have the exact same Mobo and ram, and I run radeon 6850s in crossfire. I snagged a caviar black 2tb before the hard drive market got so expensive. Plus I sold off some stuff to finance my most recent upgrades.

I am waiting for the refresh of the AMD fx line to pick one up, my current phenom 2 overclocks to 4.3 ghz and at that speed its plenty fast enough.

I actually use my Llano machine more than my gaming rig. A8 3850 running hybrid crossfire with a 6570. Its a great machine, and my mobo is mini-itx so it's pretty much a fourth of the size of the other computer and uses way less electricity.
