Hey, I bought a couple of weeks ago Shure SRH840 headphones, and other than school works and recording, I used them when I watch movies on my laptop. Even though the sound quality is top-notch, I love watching my movies with the sound cranked up a lot to feel what I'm watching a lot more than what my laptop can actually give me.

Is it possible to boost the sound so it could be louder than it can be right now when the volume is cranked up at the maximum?

I'm using Vista basic on an Aspire 5122. I don't want to buy a new sound card fyi.

I would recommend against it when you are using headphones. You might not notice it in the short run, but it will take a toll on your ears in the long run, you will feel more and more that the sound is not loud enough and the damage might be irreversible.

It's not that it's loud right now. When I watch movies, I have a hard time understanding what people are saying. When I play CSS, I have to lower it down a notch.

So the problem might be my dvd player, but I don't know. Trust me, I play music everyday (drums and perc) so I know I have to protect my ears whenever it's possible. I just want to know how I could raise my volume when I watch a movie.

This will increase the overall volume output. In other words, your max volume will be significantly higher.

In that case it's quite simple. Use VLC player to watch your movies. In VLC, you can increase the volume beyond 100% to 400% if necessary by using Ctrl+Up while playing the movie.

Thanks Kwang, and thanks reborn, I quite like your idea much more since I wouldn't have to worry about decreasing the volume everytime i listen to music on itunes or play css.

Yeah, VLC does have the 400% option, but I use both because I have a huge hearing deficit.

Soundcard or movie quality. Use Kmplayer and watch .mkv and if that doesn't fix your sound you should get a usb headset to avoid dumping money into a sc.

I dump money in a SC because I need it to plug it in an amp., not because i need it to play css. Will try the kmplayer too, even if i really like VLC atm.

thx
