I have been having this issue for a few weeks and its driving me nuts, In my home we have 4 pc's on the internet:3 are wireless including my laptop and rig (Both run win7 64bit) that are in my bedroom. Across the house is the wired pc (running Vista 32 bit) that is connected to the router.(bro has a laptop) And for weeks i will get random connection drops and lag spikes like hell either A:randomly 3 times a day Or B:whenever somebody is on the wired desktop even if they are doing light web browsing or playing solitaire i lose my connection. it pisses me off. For the record i have tried 2 different routers,One being a Linksys Wrt160Nv3 that is wireless N, The other being an old D-link router that is wireless G Both routers have this issue so i tried the adapters (usb and Pci) to no avail. I have closed all unnecessary apps on all Pc's including torrent software, and file sharing I am beginning to suspect my Modem is Bad but does anybody have any other recommendations or things to try Before I rage in IRL at Comcast My connection spped when i am not lagging is 81.0mbps on my Rig and i wont lag but every few seconds i will lose speed and drop to ~13.0 mbps. sometimes i lose signal completely and have to power cycle my router or unplug and replug my usb adapter |

CLOROX...81mbps? 13 is really fast in most places but I am pretty sure only one or two ISPs actually dish out more than 50mbps. Are you talking about the router's speed? |

well wireless can be interfered by many things, wireless is rarely ever 100% stable connections imo. its just how things are at least from my experience. kinda sucks >_> |

Probably not your cable modem unless you also experience similar spikes / drops on the desktop. Also you may see 81 Mbit/s to your router, but you most certainly won't see that outside of your LAN. If you ping your router, what kind of latency do you see? Get your router's IP address with: Code: ipconfig /all (It's probably like 192.168.0.1) Post these results. Then ping it with: Code: ping -n 50 {ROUTERS_IP_ADDR} and post the results. Also, just for fun, try: Code: tracert 72.249.124.50 and post the results and run this command, and post the results Code: netsh wlan show all Lastly, is your router password protected? WEP? WPA? Firmware updated? I mean, at the end of the day, you might be able to improve it, but you'll always have random errors with wireless, regardless of how well you optimize. |

If you live in a neighborhood with lots of people using their own wireless, you may be experiencing channel interference. Most people have no clue that they can "change channels" to increase speeds and reduce drops. If you have an android phone download "wifi analyzer" to see which channel range is clear. If you don't try channel 1 for a few days. If that doesnt help, try channel 11. The other thing to consider is that your computer (and only your computer, you can find out if your other users aren't having drops at the same time as you) may be doing wonky things with your IP lease. You can see this in your Event Logging as a TCP/IP event right at the time of your drops. Last follow fomenta [I typed formenta because I can't read. Clearly there's no "r" in his name, but I'm too dumb to realize that. Please stab me in the face. Also, I just got owned by a wordfilter.]'s instructions, and for fucks sake make sure your network is secured. |

My router is using a password: Wpa2 (Aes/Tkip mix) i have tried them both individually to no avail I have changed channels several times I am currently at 6 but its the same no matter what I have tried 2 different routers (same results slow speeds and frequent disconnects) I have updated firmware to 3.03 on the linksys website Fomenta's Requests Step 1:Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.
