Ever since I installed win7/new video card, I have been experiencing issues. When I try to start css from either library or server list it does the usual prompt loading counterstrike source then when the little windows disappears I am just sitting at desktop. I try to reopen css but it say I have a copy already running and to close before I open a new copy. So I ctl alt dlt and look in applications and nothing is running but under processes hl2.exe is running and in friends list it shows me in game so I end the process and either retry or just close steam. I have deleted and reinstalled the game verified the game cache, reinstalled both video and audio drivers, made sure windows was up to date, flashed my bios, ran the game in both administrator and compatibility mode and deleted my blog what ever and no luck, so far all steam has told me was to verify cache and try reinstalling..... Still pursuing answers. If you guys had any ideas or tips maybe a suggestion on how to have the compatibility/administrator settings set up though before I installed the video card I am pretty sure the game ran without those I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks |

It may be something within the drivers. Google your video card* name and counterstrike:source. I know on my old video card I had to go in and disable some shit to make FEAR run @ good fps. Might be something similar for you. |

You've pretty much done everything I would've tried... except one thing. Are you getting your video card drivers from ATI/NVidia directly? If so, try going to the card manufacturer (PNY/MSI/ASUS/etc) and getting their copy instead. |

So steam synchronizes your config files now, in order to provide you a similar feel across computers / installations, etc. Might consider resetting your launch options and deleting any and all config files you have, whether you think you've customized them or not. |

Well I had the original driver from evga on my computer and tried to switch to nvidia's drivers since I was having the issue. I dont know if this reset any config files or what not but i have both deleted all files accept for the game and reinstalled the entire game and as for launch options I am a little unclear on what that entails. And to hookers point I havent tried that I am currently looking into it. |

So I got a email from support at steam and they had me uninstall my virus protection among other ideas and that seems to be the problem any thoughts on why my virus protection would cause the game to launch but not at the same time and why I would have to uninstall my vp completely as apposed to disabling or editing permissions? |

I think it's the same idea as for example, if you are running a traffic monitoring program (of which Bit Defender may well include), which blocks traffic that is considered with some degree of truth to be spyware or a 'peering eye' of some sort. Steam just so happens to rely on certain systems of that nature to monitor what its users are playing/who is friends with who etc. An anti-virus (not all but some) will oftentimes block these programs from functioning in order to prevent your personal information from being transferred to their servers or to prevent an advertising agency or other entity from monitoring your traffic externally. |
