Going to build a computer for the wife. I've never slapped one together, but I'm going to get all the parts and head over to Gman and Stranges and we're going to pound it together with our dicks. First, I need to know what's what. Is all of this compatible or should I change some of it? What should I add? Am I missing anything? First, I have this case already. (Click me) So everything needs to be able to fit into that. Edit: All the names below are clicky. Motherboard: MSI K9N2 Diamond AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 780a SLI ATX AMD Motherboard. I've heard some good things about AMD, so we're thinking to go AMD this round. Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor. My heart isn't set on this, but it seems to be the best AMD out there right now, so if it'll fit in the mobo, I'll get it. Video Card:EVGA 017-P3-1175-AR GeForce GTX 275 1792MB 448-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Supported Video Card. I want to get her a sound card that will be able to play any game out there full blast. This isn't top of the line, but it seems like a good card. I've had good experience with NVIDIA cards in the past. Heatsink:ARCTIC COOLING ACF64LP 60mm CPU Cooler. Said it was compatible, so I assume it is. Dunno...I can change this if anyone sees the need. Power Supply:This is the one I have in my current computer, will it work for this one as well? Hard Drive:Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM. A hard drive is a hard drive is a hard drive, right? Just want the 1TB so she won't run out of room anytime soon. Memory:CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory. This has a lot of good reviews, so...? DVD Burner:Pioneer Black Qflix 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 40X CD-R 32X CD-RW 40X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R Burner. A CD burner is a burner is a burner... Sound Card:Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series 70SB088600007 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Express Interface Sound Card. I know this is a fat card, but I want her to have the ability to plug her headphones into the front of the computer without having to switch crap around in the back, like we do now, pfft. Okay, so does this look ok to order? Everything going to click with everything else? I'd hate to get all this crap and something not go where it's suppose to go. |

Um with the that card you can plug your front ports into the back of the card so you don't have to get that one you can go with the cheaper version. Yea 850 watts should be fine. |

I just glanced over everything quickly. Kinda busy tonight but I'll toss a few things in. That mobo looks to be an am2, and the cpu is am3. You want the socket types on both to match. Try http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103471 The ram looks fancy. I'm not one to go nuts on ram but that's a personal choice. If the idea is to build a machine that makes benchmark nerds cry, then go crazy. I don't know anything about that video card. Stats are impressive. I'd hate to spend $300 on a card I don't know anything about BUT it is a EVGA and that's my favorite brand. Also, this card is probably about 10-11" long. Your case is a mid so it might not be big enough OR you may need to "modify" (bend or cut) part of the case. I'm not a fan of that soundcard because it's so overpriced, but if the BOB (Break Out Box) is needed then that's the card for you. Anyways, that's what I saw scanning through it. If anyone notices I'm dead wrong please point it out. |

If I remember correctly, Am3's are backwards compatible with some Am2+ mobo's. I've got a Phenom II 720 (AM3) running in an ASUS Am2+ mobo. If you have your heart set on that 955 processor, check MSI's website and see if they have a BIOS update for that board that supports AM3 processors. Otherwise JFOBP's processor suggestion is the next best thing from AMD's line up. |

you may find you want a 1000 watt power supply later. i've had 2 750 watt psu's crap out on me within 2 years. they just didn't have the juice to push my system (probably cause my mobo is fucked). good luck coach!! i'll be rebuilding my computer in the next few months, so i might come asking questions soon too :) |

you say this rig is for your wife? what is she starting up some sort of military network of killing machines? or are you really gonna build it and be like.. honey.. you really dont need all this *TAKE* its looks fine to me, i wouldnt worry about the power supply it should be fine for those parts. i would def get rid of the nvidia shit and get a crossfire mobo with a few ati video cards. amd + ati = butts3x. oh and dont get that case.. you will need a full tower if you want to fit all that hardware properly. |

i just browsed through the components, personally i'd go with intel right now, the i7 is really good and ddr3 ram is cheap ( 6GB for $160 i think), the only thing kind of expensive is the mobo. I also love EVGA for vid cards, very happy with mine. I also use WD caviar black 1TB but i have 2 in raid 1 for back up. Good build double check the amd mobo and processor for compatibility. |
