Transfer your files and buy a new one.

Make sure none of your powersupply or IDE cables are hitting any of your fans

If it sounds like your harddrive is un-neccessarily working use crtl+alt+dete and the look into the processes tab. There may be more applications then you know of that are at work behind the scenes. OR you may have your computer on a scheduled maintenance for defragging and/or running scandisk.
Alot of the named .exe's will be intimidating to look at but the ones you want to look for are Ipod.exe, Itunes.exe and such. If you do not know what it does. DO NOT DELETE THE PROCESS!!! you delete something here you will definitely screw up your computer even if it looks safe. Best advice do a search query on google or Cnet to find if the .exe process is required for your computer. Most listed are, but if you find Mozilla, napster, and such you can close those down since the are taking up IRQ and processing time on your computer.
I do recommend the schedule maintenance of your Harddrive(s) at least once a week when no one will be using the computer. Scehdule maintenance should include defragging and scandisk. But not at the same time.
I also agree with the cleaning of your fans, heatsinks, and basic kill-the-dust bunnies in the computer case. These will cause heat inside your computer and affect its fragile system.
I did write about this in another post but I guess I like to type. IF you do open the case of your computer, endure that you GROUND YOURSELF AND GET RID OF ANY STATIC ON YOUR BODY the you can start cleaning the interior dust with canned air, "its pretty cheap and inexpensive", once done you can take a Qtip lightly wetted and wipe down the blades of the fans and your heatsinks. dont use the wet qtips on circuit boards that would be BAD.
